Langtang Region Trek

Langtang; not only an amazing image, but also a good book to read…...

While Annapurna and Everest trekking regions offer the most popular trekking trails, these are quite far from Kathmandu and showcase the Western and Easter part of the Himalaya respectively. For the nearest and central part of the Himalaya from Kathmandu, Trekking in Langtang region is the ideal trip for those who want to experience the natural beauty of Langtang National Park and the culture of indigenous Tamang and Sherpa people in the region. Not as much commercially touristic as Annapurna and Everest, trekking in Langtang region is more naturally indulging, private, peaceful and adventurous too.

With the spectacular view of the Himalayan range including the highest peak in the region, Langtang Lirung (7,245m) and other smaller snow-capped peaks, Langtang trekkers get an excellent opportunity to see dozens of scenic glaciers, high altitude lakes, sub-alpine forests with diverse floras and faunas. The trail was an ancient trade route between Kathmandu and Tibet. Not only for nature travelers, Hindu pilgrims from Nepal and abroad have very deep respect to the high altitude lakes (Gosaikunda, Parvatikunda, Bhairavkunda, Dudhkunda, etc.) in this region as their holy pilgrimage sites related to their greatest god Shiva. Tamang people’s cultural heritage, different from other indigenous groups in east or west, is another attraction showcasing their arts and craftsmanship, languages, costumes,  festivals and traditions.

As already noted, this region is not as touristic as Annapurna or Everest. So, foods and accommodation in this region may not be as luxurious as in those regions, but there is no doubt that the tea houses are perfect to accommodate the trekkers.

May you want a short trek to go to Langtang valley and return back along the same way or you want a circuit through Helambu (Helmu) or extend some days with cultural heritage trek, every trip is not any less than an excellent adventure trekking and cultural tour.
