Kori Danda Trekking
is one of Nepal’s most underrated and peaceful trekking experiences. Tucked
away in the northeastern hills of Pokhara, the trail to Kori Ridge (Kori Danda)
unfolds through charming Gurung villages, deep forests, alpine pastures, and
panoramic Himalayan viewpoints — all without the crowds seen on commercial
routes.
This 10-day adventure
is ideal for those who seek both cultural connection and natural solitude.
Along the way, trekkers visit the village of Sikles, a well-preserved Gurung
heritage settlement, and hike up to the spectacular Kapuche Lake, Nepal’s
lowest glacial lake, nestled below the soaring walls of Lamjung Himal.
Reaching the high
meadows of Kori Danda rewards you with sweeping views of the Annapurna and
Manaslu ranges in every direction. The trail is rich in biodiversity, birdlife,
and peaceful energy — a perfect Himalayan escape for nature lovers and
photographers alike.
Your Himalayan journey begins in Kathmandu, where the air is thick with tradition, temples, and the gentle chaos of ancient streets. A representative from our team will greet you at Tribhuvan International Airport and transfer you to your hotel in the city center. Once you check in and rest, we’ll host a briefing about your upcoming trek — going over logistics, gear, and expectations. The rest of the day is yours to explore the vibrant neighborhood of Thamel or unwind with a welcome dinner at a traditional Nepali restaurant.
Overnight in
Kathmandu.
After an early
morning breakfast, we begin our overland journey to Pokhara, Nepal’s serene
lakeside city nestled beneath the Annapurna Range. In the evening, spend your
time along Phewa Lake side, explore the tourist market around and take rest in
Hotel.
Overnight in Pokhara.
After breakfast, starting
the trip, we take a rough and scenic drive to Sikles Village, one of the oldest
and most culturally rich Gurung settlements in Nepal. Set on a hillside with
dramatic mountain views, Sikles gives a perfect introduction to the local
lifestyle and architecture.
From here, our trek
begins. The trail ascends through oak, rhododendron, and bamboo forests,
crossing suspension bridges and seasonal waterfalls. After several hours of
walking through peaceful terrain, we arrive at Hugu Goth, a remote yak grazing
camp surrounded by towering peaks. It’s a quiet and beautiful place to spend
the night, with the sounds of birds and forest wind your only companions.
Overnight in Hugu Goth.
Today we embark on a
stunning side trip to Kapuche Lake, one of the main highlights of this trek.
The trail from Hugu Goth follows a narrow, steep path through deep forest and
landslide zones, eventually opening up to reveal the surreal blue waters of
Kapuche Glacier Lake, set at the foot of massive cliffs and ice walls.
Kapuche is the
lowest-altitude glacial lake in Nepal, and its beauty lies in both its remoteness
and purity. Surrounded by snow-capped peaks and glacial debris, this lake
offers unmatched peace and photo opportunities. After spending time soaking in
its beauty, we retrace our steps back to Hugu Goth for the night, feeling
fulfilled and rejuvenated.
Overnight Hugu Goth.
Leaving behind the
forested glades of Hugu Goth, we begin our steady ascent toward the alpine
ridgelines that lead to Kori. The trail is less defined and more rugged,
offering a true sense of isolation and wilderness. We pass through open
pastures where yaks graze in the warmer months, and the tree line begins to
thin out.
After 4–5 hours of
gradual walking, we reach Nohtha, a remote grazing meadow located beneath the
towering walls of Lamjung Himal. The views from here begin to open up
dramatically, and the night sky at Nohtha is often unforgettable, painted with
stars and mountain silhouettes. We settle in for a peaceful night at camp or
basic lodging.
Overnight in Nohtha.
Today is the climax of the trek as we ascend to the open ridgeline of Kori Danda, a spectacular highland that feels like standing on the roof of the world. The trail to Kori leads us through wildflower-covered hills, with panoramic views growing wider at every step. As we gain altitude, the silence of the mountains deepens, broken only by the occasional cry of Himalayan eagles circling overhead.
Upon reaching Kori
Danda, the world opens up in all directions. You’re surrounded by dramatic
views of Machhapuchchhre (Fishtail), Annapurna II, Lamjung Himal, and even hints
of Manaslu. Few trekkers reach this viewpoint, making the experience feel
entirely your own. After a full afternoon soaking in the views and peace, we
prepare for a chilly but magical night at one of the best natural viewpoints in
the Annapurna region.
Overnight in Kori Danda.
After witnessing sunrise over the Annapurna range, we begin our descent back to Sikles Village. The return trail retraces our route through alpine meadows, grazing lands, and gradually into the forested zones. As you walk downhill, the towering peaks now loom behind you, a reminder of the vastness you just experienced.
By afternoon, we arrive back in Sikles, welcomed once again by stone houses, prayer flags, and the earthy charm of this living Gurung heritage. This evening, you may enjoy a cultural program or interaction with locals, tasting traditional Gurung dishes and learning about their rich customs and history.
Overnight in Sikles Village.
After breakfast, we
board our vehicle and begin the bumpy but scenic drive from Sikles back to
Pokhara. Upon arrival, the comfort of the lakeside city feels like a return to
luxury. You’ll have the afternoon free to explore Pokhara’s peaceful streets,
go boating on Phewa Lake, or visit nearby sites such as Davis Falls, Gupteshwor
Cave, or the World Peace Pagoda.
Pokhara offers the perfect transition from trekking silence to joyful relaxation, with cozy cafés, live music, and massage centers to help you unwind.
Overnight in Pokhara.
We depart Pokhara
after breakfast and begin our scenic drive back to Kathmandu along the Prithvi
Highway. The journey takes 6–7 hours and includes riverside views, hill
villages, and green fields. Upon reaching Kathmandu, you’ll check into your
hotel and enjoy the evening at your leisure. This is the perfect night to
explore local eateries or visit a rooftop bar for your final views over the
valley.
Overnight in Kathmandu.
With the serene silence of Kori Danda and the turquoise memory of Kapuche Lake still fresh in your mind, it’s time to say farewell. Our team will escort you to the airport for your flight home. You leave with more than just photos — you carry the spirit of the Himalayas, and the peace of a place few have seen.
