Overview

Upper Mustang Trek is a surge to the ancient utopian civilization in the Upper Mustang Region of Nepal. There are all these fascinating packages of places that come along with this trek. Lo Manthang, the ancient kingdom of Mustang district is rich in ancient history and mountain civilization. Likewise, a handy trek to this place  is an excellent way to know about the ancient Buddhist kingdom. Apart from the spellbinding mountains views, historic caves, beautiful monasteries : Amchi Museum, colorful walls, and the prayer flags are some of the other captivating attractions you wouldn’t want to miss during the hike .

The upper mustang itinerary starts from Kathmandu after you arrive at Tribhuvan International Airport. However, the trekking days will only start from Jomsom. With Heaven Himalaya, the maximum elevation you take on the trek is to Nyi La Pass after Ghaymi which is at 4010 m (13,156ft). Although the height you trek to is above 3500 m, it is a moderate level trek and doesn’t incorporate any difficulties. So, it is also a suitable option for beginner trekkers planning to hike in the high Himalayas.

Upper Mustang generally includes the northern half of the Mustang district close to the Tibetan Border. It is a very historically significant place till this date.

Upper Mustang  is a big piece of dry land. Nevertheless the  beauty it harbours is unmatchable. Since it receives the least rainfall, the region is one of the driest of all in Nepal. Despite being fry, there are all these beautiful rivers that walk along the mountains. For instance, it is one of the best sites for monsoon treks as well.

Undoubtedly, Upper Mustang has the unique beauty and glamour that no other trekking destination can provide. It is a rare gem to the people seeking mystery and creating mythical narratives of the world of fantasy. The trek will enchant you with all the beautiful mountains such as Mt. Annapurna, Mt. Dhaulagiri, and Nilgiri Himal. Furthermore you wouldn’t want to miss all those mysterious caves and ancient Monasteries.

Important Note

Please Note: Tight fitting, figure-hugging clothing, such as those made with Lycra can often be offensive to locals, especially to women. If you find these items comfortable as a base layer, please pack something to wear on top of them.

Incredible journey into the hidden kingdom of Upper Mustang

My Upper Mustang trekking experience with Ace Holiday Treks was beyond anything I had imagined. From the very beginning, the team handled everything professionally, including permits, transportation, and accommodation. The 16-day Upper Mustang trek felt like entering a completely different world — dry desert landscapes, dramatic cliffs, ancient caves, and traditional Tibetan-style villages. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable about Upper Mustang culture, history, and Buddhism, which made the journey even more meaningful. The trek was well paced with proper acclimatization, and I always felt safe even in high-altitude areas. This is truly one of the best trekking experiences in Nepal, especially for those looking for a remote and less-crowded Himalayan adventure.

Strong winds, strong memories

What I remember most about Upper Mustang is the wind constant but strangely beautiful. Some days were tough while walking through open valleys, but the guide always planned stops at the right places so we didn’t feel rushed or exhausted. The landscapes were unreal red cliffs, caves high in the rocks, and villages that looked untouched for centuries. Ace Holiday Treks kept everything organized without stress. Narayan’s briefing before the trek actually helped a lot because we knew what kind of terrain to expect.

Unexpected beauty in every village

Each village in Upper Mustang had its own personality. Some were small clusters of stone houses, others had monasteries sitting above cliffs. The architecture blended perfectly with the landscape. Our guide often stopped to explain local life and farming techniques in such a dry region. It was fascinating. The trek felt educational, not just adventurous. Ace Holiday Treks handled all the logistics without any confusion.

After Jomsom, the landscape completely changed into dry cliffs, wide valleys, and ancient villages. Our guide was experienced and kept a steady, safe pace throughout the journey. Lo Manthang was the highlight a beautiful ancient walled city with strong cultural identity. Overall, a very well-organized trekking experience in Nepal.

An Unforgettavle Adventure

This Upper Mustang trek will stay in my memory as something far beyond just a holiday. From the moment we left the green hills near Pokhara and entered the dry landscapes of Mustang, it felt like stepping into another planet. The silence, the wind, and the endless cliffs created a strange sense of calm and intensity at the same time. What truly made the journey meaningful was our guide. He had a quiet confidence, always calm even when the trail became long or tiring. His way of explaining the culture of Mustang and the meaning behind monasteries made every stop feel important. There were difficult moments too — long walking days, strong winds, and fatigue. But slowly, the rhythm of the mountains teaches patience. Reaching Lo Manthang felt less like achievement and more like understanding a completely different world. Ace Holiday Treks, under Narayan’s coordination, made everything smooth and reliable from start to finish.

An Amazing Trek In Nepal

I spent 16 unforgettable days in Nepal with Ace Holiday Treks, and I can honestly say it was one of the most meaningful travel experiences I’ve ever had. From the very beginning in Kathmandu, everything was well organized and easy. Narayan, the managing director, made sure I understood the full plan before starting the trek, which made me feel confident and prepared. During our Upper Mustang journey, our guide was always kind, patient, and supportive, especially on long walking days through windy valleys and remote landscapes. The views in Upper Mustang were beyond anything I expected wide open deserts, ancient villages, and peaceful monasteries that felt untouched by time. I really want to thank the entire Ace Holiday Treks team for making this journey so smooth, safe, and memorable. I will always remember this experience.

Unforgettable landscapes and excellent guiding support

The Upper Mustang trek completely exceeded my expectations in every possible way. From the moment I arrived in Kathmandu, everything was well organized by Ace Holiday Treks, and I felt supported throughout the journey. What really made the experience special was our guide Dipak. He was extremely knowledgeable about the region, especially the culture, Buddhist traditions, and the unique geology of Mustang. He always made sure I felt safe and comfortable, which was very important as I was traveling solo. The journey through the Mustang region towards Lo Manthang was absolutely breathtaking — vast desert landscapes, deep valleys, and ancient villages that felt untouched by time. Our driver was also very reliable and friendly, which made the road journey memoriable. This trip gave me a completely new perspective on Nepal. I feel my earlier visits would not have been complete without experiencing Upper Mustang like this. Truly unforgettable.

One of the Most Memorable Trips I've Taken

I booked the Upper Mustang Trek expecting dramatic landscapes, but what surprised me most was the culture. Every village felt unique, and visiting ancient monasteries gave me the feeling of stepping back in time. Lo Manthang was unlike anywhere else I have visited in Nepal. The region's Tibetan influence is visible everywhere, from the prayer flags to the traditional houses and local customs. While the scenery was impressive, it was the cultural experience that made this trek unforgettable. Thank you to Ace Holiday Treks for helping me discover such a fascinating part of Upper Mustang Nepal. This was much more than a trekking holiday.

Upper Mustang Trek

Upper Mustang Trek was one of the most unique journeys I’ve done in Nepal. The landscape is very different from other treks dry valleys, red cliffs, wide open spaces, and strong winds on some days which made walking a bit challenging. We visited Lo Manthang and spent time walking inside the old town. It felt very quiet and almost like stepping into a different time. The monasteries and small villages along the way gave a good insight into the local Tibetan influenced culture. Accommodation was basic but comfortable enough after long walking days. Food was simple but always enough to keep going. Some sections were longer than expected, especially on windy days, so it definitely requires decent fitness and patience.Thank you to Ace Holiday Treks for arranging everything properly and making the Upper Mustang trek smooth from start to finish. It’s a very different side of Nepal and worth experiencing once.

Completely Different Landscape Than Other Treks

Upper Mustang Trek was nothing like the green hills and forests we expected in Nepal. The whole region felt dry, wide, and almost desert-like with strong winds in some sections. It was challenging on windy days, especially when dust would blow during long walking hours.Lo Manthang was the most interesting part of the journey. The old walled city, narrow alleys, and monasteries made it feel like stepping into a very old world. We spent a long time just walking around and observing daily life there. Tea houses were basic but enough for resting after long days. Food was simple (mostly dal bhat as expected), but warm meals always felt good after walking. Thanks to Ace Holiday Treks for handling permits and logistics smoothly. Overall, a very unique trekking experience in Upper Mustang Nepal.

Very Different Nepal Experience

We completed the 16 days Upper Mustang Trek and it was unlike any other trek we have done in Nepal. The landscape is dry, dramatic, and very different from the green Himalayan trails most people expect. The itinerary was well planned, with gradual altitude gain and enough time to explore Lo Manthang and nearby villages. Some walking days felt long, especially in windy sections, but the scenery kept us motivated. A very unique cultural and trekking experience. Thanks to Ace Holiday Treks for handling everything smoothly.

Challenging but Worth It

Upper Mustang is not a luxury trek, but the experience is incredible. Accommodation and food are simple, but that is expected in such a remote area. The 16 day route allows you to fully experience the region without rushing. Some days were tiring due to wind and dry conditions, but the scenery is always rewarding. Thank you to Ace Holiday Treks for a well-managed and memorable trekking experience in Upper Mustang Nepal.

Great Experience in Upper Mustang

We did the Upper Mustang 16-day trek and honestly it was very different from what we imagined before coming. The landscape is dry, dusty and wide open most of the time, and on some days the wind made walking more tiring than the altitude itself. Lo Manthang was the most interesting part of the trip. The old walled city feels quiet and very different from other places in Nepal. We spent extra time just walking around and taking it all in. Tea houses were simple and sometimes a bit cold at night, and food choices were quite repetitive, but that is expected in such a remote region. A unique experience in Upper Mustang Nepal and worth doing at least once. Thanks to Ace Holiday Treks for handling the logistics smoothly.

Very Different from Other Treks in Nepal

Loved this trek more than I expected. Upper Mustang feels like a completely different world compared to the usual green Himalayan trails. The landscape is wide, dry, and open most of the time, and the wind becomes part of the daily routine. Some afternoons were quite dusty, so we kept our buffs and sunglasses ready almost all the time. Lo Manthang was the most memorable stop. Very calm place, ancient feeling, and we spent hours just walking around without any rush. It didn’t feel like a typical trekking village at all.Tea houses were simple but fine for resting after long walking days. Nights were colder than expected in some places, but manageable with proper gear. Food was mostly repetitive, but that’s normal in such a remote region. Ace Holiday Treks handled everything smoothly in the background, so the journey itself felt easy to follow. Upper Mustang is not an easy comfort trek, but it is one of the most unique experiences you can have in Nepal.
